Slowing Down, Shifting Focus.
Hi, I’m Joy.
I’m a landscape photographer based in the beautiful Lake District, and I spend as much time as I can exploring Scotland’s wild coastlines, quiet woodlands, and remote hills. For a long time, Instagram was my main space for sharing work. But lately, it’s started to feel like the wrong fit.
I’m not leaving Instagram completely—but I am stepping back. Less time posting there, more time focusing on places that feel better suited to how I work and what I care about.
That means more energy going into my website, which I built during the pandemic (with no clue what I was doing—but I got there). It’s now home to my portfolio, new images, and deeper reflections that don’t get buried in a feed.
It also means spending more time on the Foto app—a space built for photographers, without the noise, the ads, or the algorithm games. If you're there too, come say hello.
And here, on Substack, I’ll be sharing photo stories, updates, and the kind of slower, quieter content that doesn’t fit the speed of social media. No pressure, no performance—just real work, real moments, and a bit of insight into what goes into them.
If that sounds like your kind of pace, I’d love to have you along.
Thanks for being here.
– Joy
