Meet Joy, the woman who started Women Photographers UK and Why ….

Hi, i’ve only really been taking photography seriously since 2019 but it has now developed into a great passion. I started WPUK up for a couple of reasons. As a self taught photographer i wanted to give something back and I also wanted other female photographers to find a voice. I certainly didn’t expect for both Canada and America to start up their own community hubs soon after but it was also very pleasing. It’s fabulous as well to meet and chat to other like minded female photographers.

There has been a divide out there for quit a while now where female photographers are under represented in a male dominated profession and that shouldn’t be. It’s not about who’s at the back of the camera if it’s good work it’s good work.

Thankfully since starting WPUK there’s been an enormous amount of support not only from female photographers but from guys as well, to which I thank them for. Everyone should be treated as equals and we should be able to live in peace and harmony together regardless of gender. Women don’t want special treatment we’d just like to be recognised in our own right. It would be wonderful to see more females as brand ambassadors or women speaking at photography shows conferences or podcasts. If i can help even if it’s in a small way to support other female photographers and push their work out there then il look upon it as job well done.
